Time to start some summer book reads! Put those tired feet up, grab a refreshment and some sunglasses and transport yourself somewhere else! Books are the absolute best and there are so many out there to discover and sometimes re-discover. What better time than summer to start a new one…or 5??? Whatever your reading speed is, I decided to do a little something fun. Rather than just listing great books, I assigned categories to them so you can go right to a place if you’re feeling that particular way. Or, you can read them all! I tried to be diverse as I literally (pun intended obviously) enjoy ALL types and genres of books.
I thought I would write a small blub about the book in my own thoughts and words, and of course I will provide you links as well; you can go and decide for yourself on your next summer adventure. Please note- some books may have disclosure for suggestions of ages for the book. Hope you enjoy these picks and feel free to let me know!
For FUN
Sweet Girl by Rachel Hollis.
This is actually part of a series (The Girl’s Series) and who doesn’t love a good series am I right? I love all of the books…love may be a weak word here because I have for sure read all the books twice. Sweet Girl has some tasty pastry treats involved that make me feel like summer for some reason! The writing is fun, flirty, and filled with humor. You’re probably going to be hooked after page one.
For LOVE
Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter.
I read this book with my book club (shout out to the Epilogues!) and we really enjoyed it. Ok full disclosure, this book club contains two people! Why you ask? Because we stay on track and actually read the books we pick. We hold each other accountable and engage in questioning sessions and comments that are worth my while in the crazy timeline of life. I can set up my Epilogue Club reads in a newsletter to my subscribers after the summer. Back to Beautiful Ruins. What an imagery dream. This book transpires from Italy to Hollywood and also from time period to time period. The characters are rich and colorful and I found myself eagerly awaiting the next portion of the unfolding plot. Quite the elegantly written piece that will keep you turning the page.
For CRYING
Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah.
Why in the world would I make a category for crying you ask? Umm, because we all need that once and awhile! It’s cleansing and soul-searching. Firefly Lane will 100% cause this feeling-I guarantee it. Pure and simple, this is a story about friendship and all its elements. Just thinking about it I get a flood of feelings that make this one of my most memorable book reads of all time. A spectacular summer read that will get you hooked on this author. Warning- tissues will be needed.
For CLASSIC
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
If you haven’t heard of this book, you may have been deserted on a remote island your whole life! But this book is a classic that is a must read AND one that can be read repeatedly. I tend to read it about once a year, and always in the summer. Jane Austen titled this book perfectly as it describes the book so succinctly. And the romance is one for the ages. It never gets old and never loses its luster. The language and cadence is a bit different but adaptable for certain. If you haven’t read this, Mr. Darcy alone is worth it!
For PARANORMAL
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
Also part of a series called Mortal Instruments, City of Bones is book one of a fantastic adventure. I got hooked on these reads quickly like so many others. And like most books- the romance/love story is for sure the backbone of this beloved series. This author has a tremendous imagination and her writing is captivating. Let’s put it this way- I have all the actual books not just the e-books which means it’s truly a keeper (note the image in this post as evidence). Don’t be surprised if you just have to get the next one ASAP!

I liked Beautiful Ruins, had the audiobook for that one. Still think of Hotel Adequate View!

I just finished another Kristin Hanna book, the Nightingale, and haven’t cried more at any other book in my life. I’ll be giving Firefly Lane a try once I recover from her last book.
