It’s planner time!  It’s my zen zone! If you could see me right now you would see a gleeful girl frantically clapping and jumping up and down…not exaggerating. Type A doesn’t really even truly describe me.  I need a planner available all the time.  Like ALL. THE. TIME.  Now, I know what you’re thinking- this notion is somewhat old fashioned.  Calendars are at-the-ready on many different types of devices and I understand that.  But, heck I like something tangible, something real and something that will not lose my information if WiFi is down.  Um hello, my stuff is important ok?

Around now, the new planners come into circulation and I cannot whip out my wallet fast enough. I like to grab one that meets my strict standards: has 18 months, has pockets and has the cute factor (and must be sturdy as us girls on-the-go require reliability). Here are some hints about planning your planner once you find your perfect fit!

Birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Write them all in a certain color- something different from your normal every day stuff that way they stick out.  I tend to pick blue since black is my “average” color (blame the medical profession). Red for extra- special things like my anniversary etc.

I flip through and write anything that I want or need in specifics months right away. Once it’s actually there, I feel comforted that I can give my packed brain a little break.

For super-special things- aka important meetings, party planning or stalking your favorite stores sales dates, I like to write a dot or some other symbol a week before that event.  It’s a little visual reminder that something special is coming up.

This year, like many others (ok so for three years now…) my planners are from Kate Spade since I’m sure you’re just all dying to know.  Seriously though, they are among my favorite planners because they met all my fierce criteria and come in a variety of sizes. Also, super fun and cute.  I cannot see myself sans planner in any near future!

Because I’m a greeting card buff another suggestion is to purchase little craft stickers i.e. Birthday cakes or candles for birthdays, hearts for anniversaries, etc and use on your planner!

We just use different colored pens in the actual planner. So for instance, I use black pen for everyday stuff- meetings, etc. And I use blue for birthdays etc. Red for extra special things like my anniversary!
