July 31st is Harry Potter’s birthday and we all know this is a very special celebration time indeed! Memory lane is being traveled in this house that is for sure! So, I cannot resist watching the whole series on TV when it comes on...does that mean I have a problem? And now the new Harry Potter book arrives and we are all awaiting it with bated breath!
Hello Harry
So if you’ve ventured into reading even this far into my post, I’m going to assume you’re a Harry Potter fan and thank goodness for that. We can still be friends now; phew! Just kidding…well sort of. We take HP pretty seriously around these parts! And another book will certainly be added to the shelf (because you MUST have all the real books and if you don’t grab them here). I can’t wait to read about after the post-epic end and see what the talented J.K. Rowling has brought us now!
The importance of Harry
I should tell you that Harry isn’t even my favorite character in the series. (ps- it’s Severus Snape if you’re wondering), But Harry is the symbol that carries the memories and the cornerstone of both the books and the movies. He is so important because these books represent all that is needed in the world- love, friendship, loyalty, truth, comradery, fantasy and imagination.
It’s not just for kids
These books and movies have been around for a long time-and I know I’m clearly not the first person to tell you about Harry Potter (tongue click). However, when I first saw an adult reading a HP book, I was surprised and intrigued. I was working in an outpatient clinic and it was a patient who was frantically turning the pages during his e-stim and ice treatment. I asked him how he liked it and he said “I cannot put it down; I’m 47 and I am completely enraptured with it”. I will never forget that. And I marched right down to the book store and thus became a person that waited for books to come out; and then later compared the books to the movies. In my home Harry Potter is sprinkled around our media room, book shelves, and even my jewelry box.
For real, when I saw the last movie in the theater I went through a small depression knowing that the end of an era was upon me. I turned to my husband and with watery eyes said “I can’t believe it’s over”! So yeah, not just for kids even in the slightest. I have read the series a few times and soon I will share this story with my Little Diva and live through it all again through her eyes. Bated breath you guys, bated breath.
