Not quite sure how October 15th is already here…but it is!  New book suggestion is thus in order!  This book was pretty easy to pick for a certain reason.  Today, in real time, the weather is clear and crisp where I live.  And outside it smells like fall. Yes, I subscribe to the belief that the air smells like things i.e. fall, snow and rain. When I read this book the atmosphere was very much the same which attests to how affected I was by this piece of literature.  Days like these I am reminded of this written word and it’s impact on me.

Like some other books, I read this in one sitting.  Mind you, this was before children full disclosure.  However, I still read into the wee hours of the evening (or maybe morning depending how you categorize it) if warranted. Although I read this book years ago, I feel I would still have to read it on one sitting to this day (ok maybe two- I’m way older). What I am trying to tell you is simple; this story was haunting, evocative, mysterious and thrilling.  Read on for more…

October 15th Book Suggestion

Title: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

Category: As stated above: Haunting, Evocative, Mysterious, Thrilling

You’re definitely not in Kansas anymore with this book.  Narrated from the victim of the murder from heaven, you’re forced to suspend your mind into alternative universes with the telling of the tale.  The author’s writing is completely different and thought-provoking.  As this isn’t a new book (copyright 2002), some of you may already have heard of this book or even the adaptation of it in the movie.  I recommend reading it before the book (as I believe any true reader would say if you know something is book-based) to form your own character building and the such. Warnings, this book isn’t for the faint of heart.  It’s gut-wrenching and just plain sad. That being said, The Lovely Bones is a must-read that I still to this day reflect upon.
