Looks like I am a day late (or two) but I am not a dollar short! I really wanted to wait to announce the January 15th book suggestion on 1/17/17 because how cool is that? Can you all really believe that this is honestly 2017? When I was younger and even thought of the millennium I was flabbergasted! Now that we are getting close to 20 years post, that really takes my mind into an odd zone. But fear not. Books are here, and with a new year comes the beginning of the book list for ’17. (yikes)
So what to start with? How shall we begin. Welp, let me just be honest here. I have been viewing many movies in the past few weeks (insert plaguing mono here) and I saw one that reminded me of this book. I had a sudden ahh haa moment where my memories were awakened. And in my moment of genius, I flagged this thought for my next book post. While I want to think this was such an intelligent notion, I was really watching Twilight and remembered how I liked Robert Pattinson in this movie. So yeah, more or less a teeny bopper moment but, hey, I am freaked out by the actual year so I have an excuse.
January 15thBook Suggestion
Title: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Category: Let Sara tell you a story
First of all, yes this book was made into a movie. So there is that…I often am weary ( and have previously stated) that this is a good and bad thing. Books are part of you when you read them and movies assign images that you either love or hate. There is no in between normally with this subject. I happened to enjoy the movie (and not just because of the main character actor) because some of the images aligned with my brain-story (the name I give for my reading mind). Now that I have beaten that to death, this beautiful book is something not to be missed.
The plot is told through an elder man living in a skilled nursing facility. He is no longer a free man, but once was and he guides you along his journey in this colorful story that does focus around a circus. I was hesitant at first of this read because it got very popular very fast. But after the first chapter I was a goner. The imagery is varied and differently told and the perspective is also altered. From previously contained notions to new discoveries, Sara Gruen certainly has a way with words. Step into the mystery world of the circus and reveal its secrets including: love, abuse, intrigue, loyalty and suspense.
